Workplace Retaliation: What can it look like?

CA employees: Think you know what workplace retaliation looks like? It’s not always as obvious as being fired.

Some actions that employees may not realize can potentially be retaliation include:

• Suddenly being excluded from meetings or opportunities
• Being given noticeably different treatment after making a complaint
• Unfair changes to your schedule or responsibilities
• Being subjected to increased scrutiny or discipline
• Being passed over for opportunities you would normally receive

If something changes after you report discrimination, harassment, wage issues, or another workplace concern, document it. Keep relevant emails and messages, and when appropriate, take photos or videos of things that may help establish what happened.
